Abstract

Cognitive impairment is a condition that affects millions of individuals worldwide, particularly the elderly, and can result from various underlying conditions such as dementia, traumatic brain injury, or developmental disorders. Individuals with cognitive impairment are highly vulnerable to exploitation due to their diminished ability to process information, assess risks, and make informed decisions. This review explores the factors contributing to exploitation among cognitively impaired individuals, including financial abuse, emotional manipulation, and neglect. Strategies to mitigate exploitation, including legal protections, caregiver support, and awareness programs, are also discussed.
