Economic growth has traditionally been regarded as a central objective of economic policy because it increases national output, expands income, supports investment, and strengthens the productive capacity of an economy. However, contemporary development debates show that growth is not an end in itself. Its real importance depends on its capacity to improve human development, reduce poverty and inequality, promote social justice, and strengthen political stability. This article examines how economic growth affects human development, social justice, and political stability, while emphasizing the role of governance, institutions, and public policies in shaping these outcomes. It argues that growth can improve living standards when it expands employment, increases public revenues, and finances education, health, infrastructure, and social protection. Nevertheless, growth can remain socially limited when it is unequally distributed, weakly inclusive, or disconnected from effective redistribution. The article also highlights that political stability is influenced by the social quality of growth, particularly through employment, poverty reduction, institutional trust, and social cohesion. Based on a theoretical and analytical review of recent and classical literature, the article concludes that economic growth should be understood as a means for achieving broader human and socio-political progress rather than as a purely quantitative macroeconomic objective.
