Abstract

This article aims to address the shortcomings in road safety communication in Lubumbashi, with a view to optimising it for the benefit of the entire road user community. The author demonstrates that, through an anthropological approach to communication, it is possible to closely examine various linguistic practices and identify all the associated problems by closely observing the target audience and integrating into their community. To address these problems, he proposes the use of preventive, dissuasive and engaging communication, through awareness-raising campaigns and other measures, with a view to bringing about a positive change in road users’ behaviour.

Keywords: road harassment; Highway Code; road safety communication.
