This research paper aims to analyse the experience of Moroccan migration to France in relation to identity, focusing on the social and cultural challenges faced by this group in their ongoing attempts to integrate into French society. The article also addresses the issue of the identity conflict experienced by this group, particularly between the need to preserve their original Islamic identity on the one hand, and the necessity of assimilating certain aspects of prevailing French values on the other, in order to avoid conflict and alienation from their new society, without overlooking the gap that arises between perceptions of original belonging and the requirements of integration into the French context, and the accompanying tensions regarding self-perception and self-redefinition.
The research will be based on a qualitative field study using semi-structured interviews to uncover the most significant personal experiences of Moroccan migrants in the context of identity conflict, by analysing their perceptions of the meanings of belonging and the reconstruction of the self within different social and cultural spaces. The study will thus focus on highlighting how Moroccan migrants reshape their identity through daily interaction with others within different host contexts.
Key words: migration, identity, integration, conflict.
